In patients with cystic fibrosis, in most cases, starting from childhood, computer tomography (CT) reveals damage to the sinonasal region. With a certain degree of orientation of a specialist in radiation diagnostics, as well as an otorhinolaryngologist, in the manifestations of this rare pathology, the CT picture of chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS), which is quite pathognomonic for cystic fibrosis, makes it possible to suspect this disease and initiate an appropriate diagnostic search.
Analysis and generalization of the results of studies on radiodiagnosis of the state of the paranasal sinuses in cystic fibrosis, the features of X-ray anatomy in this patients category and the search for a possible correlation between changes detected during CT scans with the corresponding patients genotypes and phenotypes.
The review uses data from publications presented in the eLibrary, PubMed/Medline, ScienceDirect databases for the period from 1999 to 2021. The analysis includes the results of studies on radiodiagnosis of paranasal sinus lesions against the cystic fibrosis background, as well as analytical reviews of studies on the search for CRS genotype/phenotype correlations in cystic fibrosis using radiodiagnosis.
Paranasal sinuses affect in cystic fibrosis has a rather pathognomonic CT picture. Knowing this by radiologists and otorhinolaryngologists allows avoiding diagnostic errors and adequately planning conservative and surgical treatment.
