The problem of studying and assessing risk factors for the prognosis of chronic non-communicable diseases in the system of government public health measures for the subsequent development and implementation of effective preventive programs at the group and population levels has been and remains quite relevant.

OBJECTIVE

To assess the attitude of the Nizhny Novgorod region adult population to their health depending on place of residence and level of education.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

In 2020—2021, Nizhny Novgorod Research Institute of Hygiene and Occupational Pathology staff conducted an adult health survey in the Nizhny Novgorod region through epidemiological monitoring of risk factors for chronic non-communicable diseases.

RESULTS

We surveyed 2939 people aged 25 to 64, including 42.8% urban and 57.2% rural residents. Rural residents provided a statistically significantly lower assessment of their health status. About 80.0% of participants knew their blood pressure levels, and nearly 40% had an increased blood pressure. BSL was elevated in 12.6% of the participants, and cholesterol in 22.1%. Chronic non-communicable diseases were detected in 31.9 per 100 examined. The highest prevalence was registered in Nizhny Novgorod residents with complete secondary education and rural residents with incomplete secondary education. The most common were chronic bronchitis, diabetes mellitus, and coronary heart disease.

CONCLUSION

The survey revealed significant differences in health status and attitude to health in the adult population depending on place of residence and level of education.
