Psychosocial stress is a significant factor that contributes substantially to the health of the population. To date, researchers have not identified a universal strategy for screening and preventing psycho-emotional stress and reducing its high levels.
OBJECTIVE
To review the international and local experience of prevention of psycho-emotional stress in the adult population.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
A search for relevant information (articles, medical and statistical compilations, official statistics, and reports from the World Health Organization) was conducted in the eLibrary, CyberLeninka, PubMed, Scopus, and Yandex and Google search engines for the period 1987—2025. The following key words and phrases were used: «psycho-emotional stress», «prevention strategies», «advertising», «digital and electronic technologies», «legislation», and «chronic non-communicable diseases». An analytical review was performed.
RESULTS
Among the population measures, attention is drawn to public policy measures (national strategies, regulatory documents), spatial improvement, corporate programs, information, communication, and educational campaigns, screening, and monitoring of population health indicators. One of the promising areas of the high-risk prevention strategy and the secondary prevention for persons with high levels of psycho-emotional stress is improving the interaction of the therapeutic service with legislative and regulatory preventive measures. An analysis of international and local experience showed insufficient implementation of stress prevention measures in the Russian Federation.
CONCLUSION
The psycho-emotional stress should be considered as a risk factor for chronic non-communicable diseases, which requires screening of the entire population. One of the promising areas in the Russian Federation for preventing psycho-emotional stress can be the introduction of screening, preventive counseling, and referral of individuals with high levels of psycho-emotional stress to a medical psychologist and/or psychotherapist as appropriate.
