Endometriosis is one of the most common and mysterious gynecological diseases. Despite the fact that for more than 150 years scientists from all over the world have explored various hypotheses in search of the culprits of this disease, its etiology and pathogenesis to this day remain poorly understood. Endometriosis is associated with increased survival of endometrial cells, which normally undergo programmed cell death (apoptosis) by the type of anoikis. In turn, one of the mechanisms that affect anoikis may be autophagy. Thus, inhibition of autophagy and disturbance of the regulation of anoikis can serve as one of the factors of the emergence and development of endometriosis.
