OBJECTIVE

To identify simple cephalometric parameters considering true visual height and width of the face and eliminating errors in visual assessment of the face.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Clinical analysis of cephalometric parameters in 150 patients was conducted in preoperative and postoperative period (one year after surgery). We also performed a retrospective photometric analysis of the face in the same patients before and one year after surgery.

RESULTS

We found discrepancy between anthropometric characteristics of facial proportionality and aesthetic parameters according to the previously described cephalometric points, since they do not take into account facial soft tissues and age-related deformation. We analyzed appropriate results and proposed new cephalometric parameters. The last ones are simple and reflect the true ratio of visual morphological height and visual morphological width of the face.

CONCLUSION

The proposed new cephalometric parameters allow for a more accurate assessment of visual proportions of the face. They are simple and require only full-face photograph of the patient with correctly oriented head along the Frankfurt horizontal for evaluation.
