OBJECTIVE

To demonstrate the safety and efficacy of onabotulinumtoxinA (Botox) for improving cosmetic defects in the lower face.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

In a retrospective study, 170 outpatient medical records and 55 patient questionnaires from a single medical institution were reviewed. Botulinum toxin doses injected into a target muscle, treatment efficacy, patient and physician satisfaction (GAIS and PAIS), the duration of response, and patient-assessed natural-looking result and age perception were analyzed. Adverse events were recorded and analyzed.

RESULTS

Botulinum toxin therapy of the lower face with Botox is an effective and safe treatment for improving cosmetic defects in this area, such as perioral lines, downturned oral commissures, marionette lines, and chin contour defects (dimpled chin, mental crease). A successful treatment enables facial beautification and rejuvenation. Compliance with the guidelines on botulinum toxin dosing regimens and injection techniques, as well as patient selection and thorough examination, ensure natural and long-lasting results.
