Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To assess the effect of reduction mammoplasty on the number and quality of pathological symptoms in patients with breast hypertrophy.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

The study was conducted using the Breast-Q reduction/mastopexy questionnaire (preoperative version 2.0 and postoperative version 2.0). Each item was divided into several scales, which can be used independently from each other. The score for each question ranges from 0 to 5. Responses to each scale are processed using specialized tables providing a total score 0-100. Higher score determines higher patient satisfaction or better quality of life. Preoperative results and 3-month postoperative outcomes were compared using the Wilcoxon T-test.

RESULTS

A total of 40 patients participated in the study. Everyone has more than 3 months after surgery. In 3 months after surgery, all patients showed significant improvement in all 3 scales compared to preoperative values (Wilcoxon T-test, p<0.001). There was also significant improvement in patient satisfaction with own breast compared to preoperative assessment (p<0.001). The outcome satisfaction scale, present only in postoperative variant, generated high satisfaction rates. All 40 patients (100%) emphasized that they would unconditionally agree to surgery again.

CONCLUSION

Reduction mammoplasty for breast hypertrophy solves several aesthetic issues and problems related to pathological symptoms in these women.
