The efficiency of laparoscopic paraaortic lymphadenectomy to clarify the extent of a tumor in patients with stages IB2-III cervical cancer was analyzed. The findings were compared with the results of radiological investigations. The lymphadenectomy, followed by morphological examination, was found to be more preferable than non-invasive diagnostic tests having regard to their low prognostic value. The results of this study suggest the expediency of surgical staging using diagnostic laparoscopy and paraaortic lymphadenectomy in patients with locally advanced cancer of the cervix uteri to further correct a combination treatment protocol.
