An important topic in aesthetic medicine is the assessment of the results of correcting age-related skin imperfections. The proposed methods are most often subjective and do not provide an accurate quantitative assessment of the results of the correction procedures performed.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the effectiveness of transillumination pulsography as a method for evaluating the effectiveness of procedures for correcting premature aging in patients with undifferentiated connective tissue dysplasia (UCTD).
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The study involved 58 women (main group) with more than 8 external and internal phenotypic manifestations of UCTD and signs of premature skin aging, mean age 38.4±8.1 years. The comparison group consisted of 36 healthy women, average age 35.6±6.1 years. Transillumination pulsography was performed before and after procedures for correcting premature aging in the projections of the large arteries of the face to control objectively the effectiveness of treatment. As an additional assessment method, a questionnaire was conducted using the quality of life (QOL) questionnaire SF-36.
RESULTS
The pulse characteristics on the large arteries of the face significantly reduced before treatment and reached the level of indicators of healthy individuals (p<0.05) after the procedures. A significant decrease in the psychological component of QOL was also revealed, this is due to the fact that appearance plays an active role in social life, forms an image, therefore, the appearance of even minimal signs of aging causes a violent negative reaction. After the performed procedures the patients began to demonstrate higher indicators of the psychological component of QOL (p<0.05) that practically did not differ from those in healthy people.
CONCLUSION
After the procedures for correcting premature aging in patients with UCTD, both changes in the parameters of pulse characteristics on the large arteries of the face and changes in QOL indicators were revealed that confirms the effectiveness of transillumination pulsography as a method for evaluating treatment results.
