Xerosis accompanied by itching is one of the most frequent skin changes in older people. Such patients are prone to secondary pyococcal or mycotic infection. All this leads to a decrease in the quality of life and sets specific goals in the treatment of patients of this category.

OBJECTIVE

Determination of the effectiveness of a corticosteroid drug with a double formula: methylprednisolone aceponate 0.1% + urea 2% in the treatment of itching with xerosis of the skin in elderly patients

MATERIAL AND METHODS

30 patients aged 65 to 78 years were under observation with a diagnosis of xerosis of skin and itching. To determine the effectiveness, the severity of xerosis of skin, as well as secondary manifestations of skin itching before and after therapy was evaluated.

RESULTS

Therapy with methylprednisolone aceponate 0.1% + urea 2% showed excellent clinical effectiveness in 28 (93.3%) patients, good in 2 (6.7%). The tolerability of methylprednisolone aceponate cream 0.1% + urea 2% was excellent in 29 (96.7%) patients. In 1 (3.3%) patient, mild side effects were noted in the form of amplification of skin itching, which did not require medical intervention. No serious adverse events reported during the study.

CONCLUSION

Topical use of methylprednisolone aceponate 0.1% + urea 2% proves high efficiency and good tolerance in the treatment of skin xerosis accompanied by itching in elderly patients.
