ABSTRACT The problem of early diagnosis of malignant skin neoplasms (MNs) is increasingly more urgent due to increase in the incidence of the disease by 30% over the last 10 years [1]. Increased incidence and insufficient effectiveness of screening for MNs necessitates increase in the awareness of non-cancer doctors about the signs of cutaneous MNs by training the skills of detecting suspicious neoplasms. This study was aimed at increasing the level of awareness of primary care clinicians for early diagnosis of skin tumors based on clinical and dermatoscopic data. To this end, a 3-hour master class on the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of skin tumors was conducted for students and non-cancer doctors, where photographic images of benign and malignant neoplasms were demonstrated in three stages. At the first stage, the basic level of knowledge of study participants was assessed. The first stage was followed by a lecture explaining the clinical signs of nevi, seborrheic keratosis, basal cell skin cancer, and melanoma. Then the participants were offered a second lecture, which demonstrated fundamental principles of structural analysis in dermatoscopic diagnosis of skin lesions. Improvement of the awareness of senior students of medical universities and non-cancer doctors is an effective tool for early detection of skin tumors. However, the use of dermatoscopy for early diagnosis of melanoma should be carried out by highly specialized doctors, who perfectly know the method. Short-term training helps non-cancer doctors in the diagnosis of suspicious skin lesions followed by sending patients to specialized centers.
