Basal-cell carcinoma (BCC) is the most common human skin cancer, which occurs rather often in the practice of any dermatologist. Increased incidence of multiple primary BCC lesions; the predominant localization of the process on open parts of the skin, in particular in the skin of the face, head, and neck; as well as the high relapse rate of BCC necessitate the search for and development of new organ-saving treatment methods that are characterized by more cosmetically acceptable outcomes. The review addresses the carcinogenesis issues and risk factors for the skin cancer development; provides brief information on the clinical forms of BCC and their diagnostics; describes in detail surgical and non-surgical methods of skin cancer treatment. The authors draw attention of practitioners to the necessity of timely differential diagnostics of different forms of BCC to select the most effective treatment method in each specific case.
