Abstract:

The paper gives the main development stages of the clinical picture of acantholysis and its diagnostic criteria from the time of Hippocrates time to our days; the symptom described by P.V. Nikolsky and a short biography of the scientist; the pathohistological basis of Nikolsky's symptom in S.T. Pavlov's work and the history of the cytological, histological, and immunohistochemical diagnosis of acantholysis, as well as the basic pathogenetic theories of its development.
