OBJECTIVE

To analyze the effectiveness of multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of constrictive pericarditis.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

We present surgical experience of 3 patients with severe constrictive pericarditis in 2024—2025. All patients underwent surgery involving cardiac surgeons, thoracic surgeons, cardiologists, and intensive care specialists. Subtotal pericardiectomy was performed under cardiopulmonary bypass with phrenic nerve mobilization.

RESULTS

All patients achieved clinical improvement with regression of heart failure symptoms. No postoperative complications or mortality were observed. Improvements in central hemodynamic parameters and cardiac function were noted, as assessed by echocardiography.

CONCLUSION

A multidisciplinary approach involving thoracic surgeons for phrenic nerve mobilization allows for total pericardial resection and good immediate outcomes for constrictive pericarditis.
