The effect of anxiety on cardiovascular diseases is little known. Patients with a recent history of angina have higher scores on scales of personal anxiety and neuroticism. A meta-analysis carried out in 2010 found that people with high level of anxiety are under greater risk of death from coronary artery disease. At the same time correlation of anxiety with non-fatal myocardial infarction was not statistically significant. Material and methods. We analyzed the psychological characteristics of men admitted to the hospital with angina and myocardial infarction. Depression was assessed by psychiatrist using Hamilton’s scale. Other psychological characteristics were evaluated using Rosenzweig frustration questionnaire, Spielberg anxiety questionnaire, Big Five questionnaire of personality features, Bass Perry questionnaire of aggression. Results. 180 men were enrolled. We found that patients admitted with angina pectoris show significantly higher scores of personal anxiety (p=0,033), extrapunitive reactions (p=0,037), fixation on the obstacle (p=0,035) and the tendency of differences in neuroticism level and impunitive reactions (p=0.069 and p=0.089 respectively). Retrospective analysis showed weak positive correlation coefficient of personal anxiety with age of myocardial infarction debut in patients with coronary artery disease beginning in myocardial infarction. Conclusion. Higher level of personal anxiety is weakly positively correlated with late debut of myocardial infarction in patients who have coronary artery disease started with myocardial infarction.
