10 patients with proved coronary heart disease and indications for myocardial revascularization were included in the study. Content of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and omega-3 index was detected in cardiomyocytes and RBC in peripheral blood. All patients in postoperative period received Omacor 1g/day in addition to standard therapy. Strong correlation between omega-3 index (r=0.976, p<0.0001) and relative content of DHA (r=0.939, p<0.0001) in RBC and cardiomyocytes. After 6 months of treatment with Omacor statistically significant increase of omega-3 index (by 21.1% from initial level, p<0.0001) in RBC. It is drawn a conclusion that omega-3 erythrocyte index reflects the content of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids in cardiomyocyte membranes in patients with CHD which can be used to evaluate the efficacy of treatment with omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids.
