Abstract:

Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism after phlebectomy is the commonest cause of preventable lethality among the hospitalized patients especially those who underwent a planned surgical intervention. The problem of venous thromboembolic complications in the patients with phlebological profile remains to be clarified. Bearing in mind the high frequency of phlebectomies in modern surgical practice as well as the predominantly subclinical course of deep crural vein thrombosis in many patients (especially after phlebectomy) we decided to overview the data on the problem of interest available from the domestic and foreign literature. This paper reports the results of this work with special reference to the risk factors and the incidence of venous thromboembolic complications and methods for their prevention after the surgical intervention for the treatment of primary varicose veins.
