Abstract:

Venous thrombosis and pulmonary embolism (PE) is a problem encountered by physicians working in different field of medicine. These conditions are likely to develop under a variety of clinical situations and tend to complicate the clinical course of many diseases despite adequate preventive measures. The incidence of deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary artery thromboembolism is estimated at 160 and 50 cases per 100,000 population, respectively. Massive pulmonary artery thromboembolism is the third leading cause of death in the general population accounting for 2.1-6.2% of all lethal cases (Saveliev, 2001).
