The results of experimental investigations into dynamics of the development of acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the lower extremities are presented and compared to the results of randomized studies of thrombolysis and thrombectomy in combination with anticoagulation therapy. The data obtained confirmed that the aggressive strategy for the treatment of patients presenting with acute DVT including the removal of the thrombus reduces the severity of post-thrombotic manifestations. The literature review is focused on the role of catheter-directed thrombolysis in the management of acute DVT. It is shown that early thrombectomy from the main veins not only decreases the risk of development of post-thrombotic disease (PTD) but also improves.the quality of life of the patients.
