Abstract:

The currently available data on the strategy of managing patients with chronic lymphatic oedema of the lower extremities are reviewed. Principles of combined conservative treatment including drug, compression and physical therapies are discussed. The most efficacious methods for non-medicamentous treatment and rehabilitation are described as exemplified by those employed by foreign lymphologists and physiotherapists (manual lymphodrainage, instrumental pneumocompression, laser therapy). Mechanisms of beneficial effects of physiotherapetic procedures are briefly considered, their application to the treatment of lymphedema of the lower extremities is substantiated.
