Factors affecting intraoperative safety during endoscopic thyroid surgery

Despite the rapid introduction of endoscopic technologies in thyroid surgery, questions about the safety of these interventions, the risk and incidence of complications remain one of the most frequently discussed topics. Undoubtedly, patient safety is a decisive factor in any type of surgical intervention, including endoscopic thyroid surgery. The article provides an overview of the principal information about the types and frequency of complications after endoscopic operations on the thyroid gland. The relevant information is reviewed for the currently most common endoscopic approaches for thyroidectomy and hemithyroidectomy. Possible ways of preventing and reducing the incidence of complications are presented, technical aspects that affect the intraoperative safety and quality of life of patients in the early and late postoperative period are highlighted.
