Purpose. To find out how do the general and specialized questionnaires results correlate with the results of the objective examination methods when the patients after the laparoscopic antireflux surgery for gastroesophagial reflux disease (GERD) and hiatal hernia (HH) are being examined. Material and methods. The article is based on the results of the 84 patients with GERD and HH quality of life study while following up after the laparoscopic esophagophundoplication: questionnaires GERD-HRQL, GIQLI and SF-36 were correlated with the results of the special methods of cardia closing function study. Results. After the antireflux surgeries all the special methods demonstrated the improved cardia closing function, reducing the severity of GERD, reflux esophagitis marks. All the questionnaire SF-36 scales improved considerably after the surgery with an increase of the average score up to 48%, questionnaire GIQLI up to 35%. According to the questionnaire GERD-HRQL results the patients after the surgery reported 8 times less often any GERD symptoms than prior to the surgery. Conclusion. Those patients, who survive an antireflux surgery must be evaluated by questionnaires GERD-HRQL and GIQLI and general questionnaire SF-36 with the correlation of the objective examination of the cardia closing. The evaluation by a patient of his own health by means of a questionnaire doesn’t always represent the sufficient anti-reflux function of the formed cuff.
