Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

We described a difficult-to-diagnose clinical case of intraperitoneal mesh plug migration.

KEY POINTS

The article presents a short review and medical history of a patient with mesh-related visceral complications following tension-free hernia repair. The patient’s medical history suggests mesh plug migration that was confirmed on colonoscopy.

CONCLUSIONS

Mesh-related visceral complications following hernioplasty are considered rare in clinical practice. Definitive diagnosis may be difficult due to many reasons such as non-specific symptoms, severe inflammation precluding identification of the abdominal wall layers, and imaging modalities of CT and MRT may be inconclusive or unable to detect the foreign body. However, colonoscopy demonstrates colon invasion by a migrated mash plug.
