Abstract:

This article highlights the critical points of the seminar. Its primary purpose was to discuss legal aspects of the interaction between an endoscopist and a patient. Currently, informed consents for endoscopic procedures are neither up to par with modern legal requirements nor cover all the various possible complications or side effects of endoscopic procedures. This violates the patient’s rights for receiving all the information necessary to make an informed decision and potentially harm physicians and other healthcare’s reputation. As a result of the practical seminar, a multiteam task force was established to create documents adequately informing patients and improving the legal aspects of healthcare.
