Aim. The objective of the present work was to evaluate the quality of life in the children operated for the treatment of Hirschsprung’s disease. Material and methods. Since 2007, the quality of life has been evaluated in 104 children with different forms of Hirschsprung’s disease before surgery and 3 and 12 months after completion of all stages of the surgical treatment. The results obtained were compared with the respective characteristics of the healthy children. The Russian version of the PedsQL 4.0 questionnaire was used for the purpose. Results. Preoperatively, the quality of life indictors were impaired in comparison with the healthy children. The difference was minimal in the patient with the ultra-short form of the disease. The surgical treatment resulted in positive dynamics of the quality of life indictors in all the children even though the changes were different in individual patients. The best results were obtained in the children presenting with the ultra-short form of the disease and the worst ones in those with the complete form. In the patients of the former group, the quality of life indictors showed direct correlation with the age. In the remaining patients, the most pronounced positive changes of the quality of life were obtained in the immediate and long-term postoperative periods following Georgeson’s surgery. Conclusion. In none of the above groups of the children presenting with different forms of Hirschsprung’s disease, the quality of life indictors reached the normal values even in the late postoperative period despite the surgical treatment and rehabilitative therapy.
