Abstract:

Inhalational anesthetics sevoflurane and desflurane provide excellent anesthetic results with low complication rate. They are the “gold standard” of general anesthesia. Some meta-analyses summarized the results of randomized clinical trials of both anesthetics at individual endpoints.

OBJECTIVE

To compare sevoflurane and desflurane in adult patients undergoing non-cardiac surgery.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

Meta-analyses were searched in the PubMed and eLibrary databases until December 2024.

RESULTS

Our data indicate some superiority of desflurane over sevoflurane for general anesthesia in these patients.

CONCLUSION

This overview fills an important knowledge gap on efficacy and safety of inhalational anesthetics.
