The paper describes the present views on the pathogenesis of uterine myoma, the role of genetic factors, steroid hormones, and their receptors, growth factors, as well as impaired proliferation and apoptotic processes in the development of comorbidies of the endo- and myometrium. It considers the topical problems of uterine artery embolization (UAE) used in patients with uterine myoma; the results of and reasons for the ineffectiveness of the technique and complications are analyzed. Data on the impact of UAE on the patients' reproductive function are analyzed separately.
