The method of electrochemical therapy was applied for the management of children presenting with major vascular malformations of the maxillofacial region. A total of 25 patients with this problem have been given this treatment since 2006. We borrowed the method of electrochemical therapy from oncological practice. Having changed physical parameters of the action of electric current on the tissues, we conducted the preparatory work for the surgical intervention to correct vascular malformations of the maxillofacial region in the children. The key point in the estimation of the efficacy of the method of electrochemical therapy was the ultrasonic study of the zones in which the state of the vascular structures was evaluated in the preoperative period as well as 1, 3, and 7 days after surgery. The results of the treatment suggest its inhibitory action on the pathological growth rate of the vascular tissue, reduction of the blood flow velocity, and transformation of the pathologically changed vascular tissue into connective and fatty tissues. It is emphasized that for all advantages of the technique employed in this study, the most satisfactory results of the treatment in the children with vascular pathology could be reached only by combining electrochemical therapy with the traditional approaches to the treatment of vascular malformations.
