The Russian Federation, as a long-standing partner and active participant in the World Health Organization (WHO) in the prevention of non-communicable diseases, including through increasing physical activity, implements the main WHO physical activity strategies at the national level. This activity area is particularly important as part of the national project “Long and Active Life” and the federal project “Health for Everyone” to promote physical activity among the population of the Russian Federation.

OBJECTIVE

To review current information on regulatory, administrative, and methodological support for the implementation of strategies to increase physical activity among the population of the Russian Federation.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

The regulations of the Russian Federation governing the development of physical culture and sports, guidelines on physical activity, WHO publications on physical activity, and relevant Russian and international publications were reviewed for the preparation of the paper.

RESULTS

The main documents guiding national policy on physical activity in the Russian Federation, aligned with WHO guidelines, are systematized into the following categories: legislation, communication policy, national guidelines, activity monitoring, infrastructure, and the development of sports and physical culture.

CONCLUSION

In the Russian Federation, strategies consistent with the World Health Organization’s guidelines have now been approved and are being implemented.. It is planned to implement a set of measures to promote physical culture and sports as an important component of a healthy lifestyle, increase the population’s motivation to engage in physical culture and sports, and develop sports infrastructure.
