The priority task of the state and society is to preserve the health of young people, as they constitute the country’s economic and scientific potential. Timely development of students’ awareness of the need for a healthy lifestyle (HLS) helps maintain and improve the health of young people and future generations.
OBJECTIVE
To assess the commitment of students to a healthy lifestyle and develop a program of motivational activities aimed at forming a habit of leading a healthy lifestyle.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The study conducted in March 2025 included 405 first-year students of the Tyumen State Medical University. To assess adherence to a healthy lifestyle, a questionnaire survey was conducted via Google Forms. The presence of components characterizing adherence to a healthy lifestyle was determined: sufficient physical activity, absence of smoking and harmful alcohol use, and daily consumption of the recommended amounts of vegetables, fruits, and salt. Statistical analysis was performed using StatTech v.4.8.3. The survey showed three levels of healthy lifestyle adherence: high (all components present), moderate (no smoking and at least three components present), and low (smoking).
RESULTS
Among the individuals studied, the following components predominate: no harmful alcohol consumption (96.3%) and no smoking (74.6%). Sufficient physical activity was reported by 70.9% of respondents. The lowest value (16.3%) was observed for the component “consumption of the recommended amounts of vegetables and fruits.” A high level of adherence to healthy lifestyles was observed among 16.3% of respondents. 25.4% of smokers had low adherence. The moderate level of adherence was found in 58.3% of students. This parameter can be increased by implementing activities that promote healthy lifestyles.
CONCLUSION
The study assessed the commitment of medical university students to a healthy lifestyle and helped to develop a program of motivational activities focused on the formation of sustainable skills for maintaining and promoting health, awareness of the value of preserving personal health, and the health of future patients and future generations.
