OBJECTIVE
To study the accessibility of sports facilities of municipal infrastructure and its associations with level of physical activity and obesity of the resident population.
MATERIALS AND METHODS
The accessibility of sports facilities in a radius of 400 m and 1000 m and the minimum distance to them from the place of residence of respondents — participants of ESSE-RF3 in the Tver, Arkhangelsk and Sverdlovsk regions were evaluated. An analysis of the association of parameters of sports infrastructure with insufficient physical activity and obesity in each city separately was carried out. Statistical analysis was performed with the R 4.1 open-source environment.
RESULTS
The differences in the number and type of sports facilities (SFs) in pilot regions, that were apparently established by differences in climatic zones, regional/municipal conditions and opportunities, including the area of investigated territories, have been revealed during the study. In Arkhangelsk, the selected municipalities had more SFs — 210 and their density — 3.4 per km2, in Yekaterinburg and Tver: 167 (1.3 per km2) and 116 (1.1 per km2), respectively. The same tendency has been identified when estimating SFs number in a radius of 400 m and 1000 m from the place of residence of respondents of the pilot municipalities participating in ESSE-RF3. The results of this study has shown associations between obesity and the number and proximity of sports infrastructure facilities.
CONCLUSION
Innovative study on assessment of accessibility of actual municipal infrastructure, performed for the first time in our country for the purpose of a state task in three constituent entities of the Russian Federation with the help of developed special software, demonstrated the wide possibilities for scientific and practical use of the established methodology of evidence-based approaches to develop, implement and evaluate municipal/regional public health programs, aimed at, including, increase in the physical activity of the population.
