The prevalence of latent iron deficiency (ID) and iron deficiency anaemia (IDA) indicates that these conditions are an important problem in modern healthcare. Early identification of IDA and its correction is particularly important for women of reproductive age.
OBJECTIVE
To determine the clinical effectiveness and pharmacological possibilities of iron deficiency correction in women of reproductive age with iron deficiency anaemia.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A prospective monitoring of patients with IDA and ID, who received therapy with a combination medicine of bivalent iron and folic acid in a pharmaceutical form with layer-by-layer release of active substances, was carried out. The follow-up period was 2 months. The study included 28 women of reproductive age. The patients consulted a physician with complaints of deterioration and weakness, feelings of heart rhythm disorders. Various types of arrhythmias were registered in 22 of them after consultation with a cardiologist. IDA and ID were identified in all cases. The complete blood count indicators, serum iron level and ferritin level were investigated before starting the therapy, after 1 and 2 months from the treatment beginning, and the symptoms and complaints of patients were assessed in the monitoring process.
RESULTS
There has been a significant subjective improvement, the complete blood count indicators have been restored, the iron repository has been replenished and subjective complaints have been relieved as a result of the combination medicine of iron and folic acid use. There was a good tolerability of the drug, which has resulted in a high adherence to treatment. No patient has stopped taking the medication.
CONCLUSION
The study results demonstrate the effectiveness of treatment with the preparation of bivalent iron and folic acid in the pharmaceutical form with layer-by-layer release of active substances with regard to laboratory parameters, clinical manifestations of iron deficiency anaemia and adherence to treatment.
