The literature review presents data from large-scale international studies indicating the association of breast arterial calcification (BAC) with cerebrovascular disease and relevance of BAC assessment as a predictor of stroke. It is expected that the identification of BAC as a high-risk marker for cerebrovascular disease will significantly increase the role of mammography as a screening technique that promotes early diagnosis and reduces mortality from the two most serious and fatal diseases in the female population — breast cancer and stroke.
