Abstract:

Current demographic data show the growth of the population and its aging, which leads to the increasing incidence of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), to comorbidity, polypragmasia, and thus to a greater demand for appropriate staff, drugs, and logistics, as well as health care costs. This explains the need and importance of increasing healthy life expectancy and human capital, which is responsible for the country’s higher economic prosperity. Improving health literacy can serve as a basis for maintaining good health, preventing and controlling NCDs and, as a consequence, increasing healthy life expectancy. The tool for improving health literacy in the population can be the informative and educational programs aimed at improving health literacy, which have shown their effectiveness, and can be implemented in both the entire population and target groups.
