The paper presents the structural indicators of mortality from external causes from the data of an analysis of the 2009 to 2012 medical certificates of death. There were a total of 24292 deceased people in the register. Mortality rates by sex and domicile were compared. Among the deaths in these years, men were the majority (79.2%) of the deceased; 50.7% of those who died from external causes were ruralresidents. Among the men, the proportion of rural residents was slightly higher than that of urban residents. Among the deaths occurring within 4 years, there were those from accidents that ranked first in both the urban and rural populations (46.0 and 45.2%, respectively); next were damages with uncertain intentions in the rural population (29.0 %) and deliberate self-harm (34.0%) in the urban one; in the rural population, damage with uncertain intentions (13.8%) and attack (7.0%) occupied third and fourth places, respectively; the deliberate self-harm (17.3%) and attack (7.7%) did in the urban one. In most cases, the primary cause of death was established by a forensic medical expert from autoptic data; the time of death was indicated in every five and every eight rural and urban cases, respectively; death occurred between 6 pm and 12 pm in every three rural and urban residents.
