Abstract:

Despite their recent downward trend in the Russian Federation, death rates due to circulatory diseases are noted to be high especially among able-bodied people, which depend on the prevalence of risk factors (RF) in the population by 60%. As of now, we do not dispose of the data that could demonstrate in full measure variations in the prevalence of RF and estimate the contribution of traditional and new factors to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality rates in the population of the Russian Federation. In this connection, the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation has launched an Epidemiology of cardiovascular diseases in different regions of Russia (ESSE-RF) study in its 12 regions differing in climatic, geographic, economic, and demographic characteristics. This paper presents the protocol of the ESSE-RF study.
