N.M. Volkovich is widely known for his researches in abdominal surgery, traumatology, orthopedics, otorhinolaryngology, urology, gynecology, and neurosurgery. Little-known facts about his life have been established. When working at the Aleksandrovskaya Hospital, Volkovich gain extensive experience in clinical surgery and traumatology. N.M. Volkovich is emphasized to have made the most significant contribution to traumatology. It is noted that he advocated that it was feasible for patients to get up early and upheld the principle of functional treatment for fractures. The paper analyzes the work by N.M. Volkovich on the treatment of fractures, in a literal sense, until the end of his days, who completed his numerous works with the extensive monograph «Damage to Bones and Joints».
