Abstract:

Today, endoscopic intraluminal resections of respiratory tract tumors are a surgical oncologist’s daily practice today. To avoid complications, it is necessary to make an informed choice of anesthetic and ventilation techniques that ensure patient safety and surgeon comfort

OBJECTIVE

To improve the results of endoscopic treatment in patients with stenotic tumors of respiratory tract, by optimizing anesthetic management.

Subjects and methods. Surgical treatment using endoscopic techniques was performed in 430 patients with cancer of the larynx, trachea, and bronchi. According to the site of a tumor, the surgeons selected anesthetic and ventilation techniques, on the basis of which 4 patient groups were identified. The course of anesthesia and complications were analyzed

RESULTS

The course of general anesthesia was stable in all the patients. Substantial hemodynamic changes and significant hyperglycemia were not detected. The adequacy of anesthesia performed in non-curated patients confirms the absence of motor reactions and coughing, mild awakening, and emergence from sedation. There were no serious complications associated with general anesthesia and surgery.

CONCLUSION

The developed and investigated technologies for anesthetic management and respiratory support for patients proved to be effective during endoscopic interventions and can be used in wide practice.
