Objective: to evaluate the efficacy and safety profile of abiraterone acetate in men with castration-resistant prostate cancer. Subjects and methods. In 2013 to 2015, a total of 53 patients with disease progression after cytotoxic therapy have been treated with abiraterone acetate. The average number of cycles was 7.26±1.01. The therapy was evaluated for its impact on quality of life: a change in pain grade and Karnofsky index. Results. PSA levels were observed to reduce by more than 50% of their baseline values in 50.9% of the patents and below 80% in 28.3%. PSA levels were noted to stabilize in 26.4% of the cases. Conclusion. Abiraterone acetate shows equal efficacy in both patients who have not received chemotherapy and those who have one and more lines of chemotherapy. This drug demonstrates a favorable safety profile; all adverse events were controlled by etiotropic and symptomatic therapy.
