The question of the genetic diversity of HIV-1 in Irkutsk region has long remained unsolved. The article presents the analysis of nucleotide sequences of HIV-1 pol gene which encodes enzymes protease, reverse transcriptase and integrase. We used blood plasma of 65 HIV-infected people permanently residing in Irkutsk region. There were identified three subtypes of HIV-1: A1, B and recombinant form CRF02-AG. Like in other territories of Russian Federation subtype A1 dominates - 95.38%. Antiretroviral drug resistance strains of the virus have been found in 63% of patients. The range of drug-resistant strains of complies with the basic schemes of therapy used in our region: resistance to PI — 10,77% to NRTI — 58,46% to NNRTI — 35,38% to II — 3,08%. Mono-resistant strains — 34,15% multiresistant (to two or more groups of drugs) — 65,85%.
