BACKGROUND
Anogenital papillomavirus infection is a common sexually transmitted viral infection. Typically, infection occurs in the anorectal region with severe clinical manifestations and has a tendency to recurrence, which can worsen treatment results.
OBJECTIVE
To study the results of combined treatment of patients with anogenital (venereal) warts of anorectal localization using a polysaccharide drug from Solanum tuberosum shoots in different pharmaceutical forms and to compare its efficacy with a recombinant interferon alpha-2b drug.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
The study included 141 patients. All subjects underwent a comprehensive examination for sexually transmitted infection. The study participants were divided into 5 clinical groups, in which course therapy with drug from Solanum tuberos shoots and recombinant interferon alpha-2b in various pharmaceutical forms were administered. Destruction of formations was done in presence of drug application. The results were evaluated every 14 days.
RESULTS
The efficacy of the course therapy with shoots of Solanum tuberosum plant was 100% in intravenous injection during the follow-up period of 3 months, 89% in rectal suppository use and 70% in gel application in HIV-positive patients. The efficacy of rectal suppositories of recombinant interferon alpha-2b in non-HIV patients amounted to 74% and only 60% in HIV-infected patients.
CONCLUSION
The combined treatment results of patients with anogenital warts of anorectal localization using a drug based on polysaccharides from Solanum tuberosum shoots in various pharmaceutical forms (solution for intravenous injection, rectal suppositories, gel for topical and external use) have shown their high clinical efficacy, which appeared to be higher than for the similar pharmaceutical form of recombinant interferon alpha-2b in non-HIV-infected patients in parenteral intravenous use.
