BACKGROUND

Prurigo adultorum is a dermatosis characterized by intense itching and scratching, leading to quality of life deterioration and formation of pathological psycho-emotional reactions to the disease.

OBJECTIVE

To evaluate the clinical efficacy of combined therapy of prurigo adultorum with application of temgicoluril anxiolytic.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A prospective non-comparative clinical study included 53 patients (mean age 46.5±7.1 years) with chronic prurigo adultorum in the exacerbation phase with concomitant psycho-emotional disorders. Combined treatment of patients with the addition of temgicoluril anxiolytic of 500 mg twice a day for 3 months was performed. The level of psycho-emotional disorders was studied using the Hamilton scales for depression (HDRS) and anxiety (HARS) assessment and the Spielberger—Khanin scale for evaluation of state and trait anxiety levels.

RESULTS

Analysis of the study results of patients with prurigo adultorum on the HDRS, HARS and Spielberger—Khanin scales has shown a significant influence of the disease on the patients’ psycho-emotional state. The levels of indicators have significantly decreased and corresponded to normal psycho-emotional status after the course of treatment with temgicoluril anxiolytic.

CONCLUSION

Application of temgicoluril anxiolytic in the comprehensive treatment of prurigo adultorum showed high clinical efficacy and safety of this method.
