RELEVANCE
Cryolipolysis is one of the most common hardware aesthetic medicine procedures. The peculiarities of cold exposure cause specific side effects and contraindications to this technology. There are many separate publications about the adverse events associated with cryolipolysis, but it is necessary to systematize diagnosis and correction methods.
OBJECTIVE
Based on international and local experience, to determine the patient’s portrait that is potential for the development of cryolipolysis adverse events, to identify the most severe complications associated with this procedure and to describe its diagnosis and correction methods.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A Second National Advisory Board was held to consider possible adverse events associated cryolipolysis, favorable and unfavorable patient profiles, as well as therapy for early and late complications of the procedure. Based on a review of literature and personal experience, experts have compiled recommendations that will allow specialists to improve patient safety and satisfaction.
RESULTS
The experts developed diagnostic and treatment recommendations of rare adverse events associated with cryolipolysis: paradoxical adipose hyperplasia, delayed pain onset, and cold panniculitis. Recommendations are also given to prevent asymmetry or dissatisfied patient. Patients with metabolic syndromes, insulin resistance, hormonal imbalances, and a personal or family autoimmune diseases history require a more thorough examination before performing the procedure. Experts have confirmed the favorable safety profile of the cryolipolysis and very low risk of developing such undesirable phenomena as frostbite or hyperpigmentation.
CONCLUSION
Cryolipolysis is an effective and safe procedure used to correct excess body fat. These protocols will help to diagnose and treat adverse events that may be associated with this procedure.
