Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, recurrent, genetically determined, inflammatory disease with a steadily increasing prevalence, manifested by a variety of symptoms including localization on the skin of the genitals.
OBJECTIVE
To determine the frequency of detection and features of AD manifestations in case of lesions of the external genital organs in girls at an outpatient practice with an obstetrician-gynecologist leading a children’s reception in the specialty of gynecological endocrinology.
MATERIAL AND METHODS
A short-term continuous observational study of 1750 girls aged from 1 month to 17 years old who applied with various gynecological pathologies for consultation with a doctor practices the children’s care in the specialty of gynecological endocrinology was carried out. The examination of patients was carried out using the developed questionnaire and methods of general clinical and laboratory diagnostics.
RESULTS
The detection rate of AD among girls was 2.4%. Manifestations of AD in the vulvar area were observed in 1.8% of the surveyed. In most cases (95.2%) the age of children with AD and vulvar involvement ranged from 1.5 to 5 years. Atopic family history was established in 59.5% of girls with AD. Examination of the entire skin in all girls with manifestations of AD on the genitals revealed additional signs of atopy.
CONCLUSION
Localized forms of atopic dermatitis limited to the external genital area represent an urgent interdisciplinary problem. Evaluation of anamnestic data, symptoms of the disease taking into account the age of the patient and the characteristics of skin lesions in the external genital area allows a doctor of a related specialty to establish a diagnosis and determine the further routing of the patient.
