The paper presents a literature review demonstrating the growth and spread of psoriasis in various countries. Disease onset age, gender differences, and frequency of different clinical forms are discussed. In the Russian Federation, the prevalence of psoriasis amounts to 3.5% in the overall structure of chronic diseases of the skin and subcutaneous fat. The authors draw attention to the fact that a large settlement area of the Russian population and its heterogeneous ethnic composition predetermine some differences in epidemiological features of psoriasis even within the same region. The aim of research was to evaluate the features of the epidemiological situation with psoriasis incidence in Moscow for the period between 2008 and 2012. Material and methods. The study used the data of the annual statistical report according to the Form No.12 approved by Decree of the Federal State Statistics Service No.154 of 27.09.09, No.520 of 29.12.11, and No.13 of 14.01.13. Results. The different dynamics of the total number of psoriasis cases was observed during the period between 2008 and 2012. For example, an increase of this index by 9.12% was observed in 2009, a decrease by 6.4% was in 2010, an increase by 3.4% was in 2011, and a decrease by 10.1% was in 2012. The proportion of patients with psoriasis in the overall structure amounted to 3.6% in 2008, 3.8% in 2009, 3.3% in 2010, 3.4% in 2011, and 3.2% in 2012. In general, the proportion of patients with psoriasis had significantly increased in Moscow between 2008 and 2012. Therefore, the analysis of literature data and our own observations indicate an increase in the incidence of psoriasis in different countries, a reduction of the life quality of patients, and elevation of economic costs of their treatment, which necessitates further improvement of therapy, evaluation of treatment methods from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine, and development of primary and secondary prevention of psoriasis with allowance for current features of the disease.
