Currently, one of the urgent problems of modern medical science is the antibiotic resistance of microorganisms. This phenomenon is responsible for the recurrent course of pyodermas and a slow response to traditionally used drugs. At the same time, the increased virulence of microorganisms in combination with the impaired barrier skin function, which is observed in a number of common chronic dermatoses (e.g., atopic dermatitis), provides conditions for a secondary infection of the affected areas that leads to the development of vicious circle and chronicity of the process. Therefore, it is very important to broaden the arsenal of drugs exhibiting the antibacterial effect against pathogenic bacteria that are of etiological significance both in pyodermas and in secondarily infected dermatoses. Bacteriophages belong to these alternative drugs. The article is an overview providing basic information about the efficacy of polyvalent bacteriophages in clinical practice.
