The article provides brief historical information about lichen sclerosus. The authors give attention to the tendency towards an increase in the disease incidence with a delayed diagnosis in children. This is related to a variety of clinical manifestations of dermatosis and a rare occurrence of this disease in the practice of pediatric gynecologists, dermatologists, and pediatricians. The age peculiarities of clinical manifestations and disease course in children are presented in detail, especially when the genital area is involved in the pathological process. The issues of diagnosis and treatment are considered. The authors’ own case studies of genital lichen sclerosus (GLS) in children aged 8 and 12 years are described. Combined therapy of GLS provided a clinically beneficial effect. The presented information is related to the localization features, clinical polymorphism, and approaches to treatment of lichen sclerosus in childhood. Systematization of clinical manifestations of this disease is of interest not only for practical dermatologists but also for pediatric gynecologists, urologists, and pediatricians.
