Abstract:

OBJECTIVE

To demonstrate our experience of endoleak embolization after endovascular abdominal aortic repair.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A retrospective clinical study between May 2019 and April 2021 included 10 patients (8 patients with type II endoleaks and 2 patients with type Ia endoleaks after abdominal aortic repair). Mean age of patients was 72 years. Primary endpoints were technical success, no endoleak recurrence, mortality, need for redo surgery and incidence of aortic rupture. Mean follow-up period was 12.5 months. Embolization for type II endoleak was performed in 8 cases. Two patients with type Ia endoleak required graft cuff implantation and endoleak embolization, as well as endoleak embolization combined with graft cuff implantation and chimney-type renal artery stenting.

RESULTS

Technical success was 100%. There were no aortic ruptures or deaths after embolization. In one case, type II endoleak was detected after 2 months with significant shrinkage of aneurysmal sac.

CONCLUSION

Endoleak embolization demonstrates good mid-term results without need for redo interventions.
