Abstract:

The authors report the results of a prospective comparative study designed to evaluate the clinical efficacy of daily dosed walking in the patients that suffered deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the lower extremities during the preceding period. The malleolar volume, lower extremity muscle fatigue and pain were compared in two groups of the patients discharged from the hospital with the recommendation to use compression and anticoagulation therapy. The patients of group 1 (n=44) were prescribed an additional treatment in the form of daily dosed walking whereas those in group 2 were free to choose the regime of locomotor activity. Clinical symptoms and signs were evaluated within 2 weeks, 1, 3, 6, 12, and 18 months after the treatment. It is concluded that the inclusion of daily dosed walking in the treatment of patients after deep vein thrombosis leads to a statistically significant objective and subjective improvement of clinical symptoms of venous insufficiency and promotes restoration of working capacity.
