OBJECTIVE

To compare the results of physicians’ perception of their work in providing information about prevention of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction to their patients and patients’ perception of this information.

MATERIAL AND METHODS

A questionnaire survey was conducted among 267 female patients and 45 primary outpatient physicians. Statistica 5.1 for Windows (StatInc., USA) statistical data analysis package was used for statistical calculations.

RESULTS

The results of the surveys revealed a significant statistically significant discrepancy in the perception of information delivery to patients by physicians and its assimilation by women.

CONCLUSIONS

Patients demonstrated low awareness of pelvic floor muscle dysfunction prevention options (only 5% of women received this information), while physicians were reported to be informed in at least 20% of cases. The information was best absorbed by the patients who were explained how to perform Kegel exercises using visual diagrams and manual control by the physician during gynecological chair examinations.
